New Sands film premieres at Cannes

'Hunger', the new biopic about the last weeks in the life of IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands, had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last night.
The film was directed by first-time British director Steve McQueen and stars German-born and Kerry-raised actor Michael Fassbender as Sands.
Speaking to AFP about the controversy the film will provoke, Turner Prize winner McQueen said: "I'm not saying I agree or disagree with Bobby Sands, what I'm saying is I don't know. The film is about people making decisions, bad or right decisions, and the consequences of that."
'Hunger' was shown as part of the 'Un Certain Regard' competition at Cannes, a companion to the Palme d'Or award.
